Sierrans have a rare opportunity to help save a valuable part of the Big Thicket.
Forty-five acres of prime bottomland forest is on the market. This forest is located at
the confluence of Beech and Village Creeks. Acquisition of this forest will protect the
watershed of Big Thicket National Preserve and will help connect parcels of federal and
along Village Creek.
This forest has one-half mile of frontage on Beech Creek, white sand bars, hundreds of
bald cypress, tupelo-cypress sloughs, and huge sweetgums, oaks, and blackgums with a
tapestry of wild azaleas, blueberries, ferns, and mosses underneath.
The Big Thicket Natural Heritage Trust (a land trust) has taken out an option to buy
the forest and now needs to raise $38,250 to save this forest forever! Please send as
generous a donation as you can. Make your check out to the Big Thicket Natural Heritage
Trust, P.O. Box 1701, Jasper, Texas 75951. For more information call Brandt Mannchen at
